On Friday, 9th August 2024, the students of grades I and II celebrated Bio Fuel Day.
World Biofuel Day is observed on August 10 annually in memory of Rudolf Diesel, the founder of diesel engines to create awareness about the importance of biofuels that are made from biological materials like agricultural waste, animal waste, algae, trees, crops or even grass.
A PPT was shown to the children mentioning the importance of SDG12 - Responsible consumption and production. Through audio-visual aids, the children learnt how biofuel is derived from sugar, starch and cellulose and then transferred to the gas station. The children learnt about the two most common types of biofuels – ethanol (made from corn and sugarcane) and biodiesel (sourced from vegetable oils). The importance of fuel was explained to the children and to conclude an activity was conducted in the class – the children made beautiful posters on saving fuel for a better environment.
